REMO GIAI, patron of Farmo, President of the Industrial Union of the Province of Varese (UNIVA).

The Food Group of the Industrial Union of the Province of Varese (UNIVA) has a new President since yesterday: Remo Giai, patron of FARMO, a leading company in the production of gluten free products.

The entrepreneurial story of the new President Giai well expresses the genius loci of the Varese territory. Both the intuition, born 20 years ago, which has captured in advance the direction of people’s preferences and needs. Although he does not suffer from coeliac disease, Giai decided to take a qualitative step forward in terms of foods created for special nutritional needs. It is not enough to eat correctly, you have to eat well, with taste, as the Italian tradition teaches. As well as investing in the quality of raw materials, Giai is also investing strongly in research and development, in order to develop technical and scientific skills and to prepare foods that are not only gluten-free, but also good, with high nutritional characteristics – with total quality control throughout the supply chain. After the first historical establishment in Lavezzola (Ravenna), in 2010 the production site in Casorezzo was built (dedicated to the production of bakery products and special bakery mixes) and a new phase of industrial expansion began, which allowed the FARMO brand to become a gluten-free leader first in Italy and then on the international markets. In 2015 a second establishment was inaugurated, always in Casorezzo: it was a technological investment that made it possible to penetrate the European and American markets, since FARMO now produces not only for its own label, but also for large retail brands in the United States and Canada (with GFCO standards from the Gluten Intolerance Group and GFCP, Gluten Free Certification Program, from the Canadian Celiac Association – the FARMO brand is certified through annual third-party audits that verify both the system and the management of risk analysis). Up to the third establishment, born in 2017, dedicated to the bakery sector. President Remo Giai’s guiding pillars remain quality, attention to the territory and the duty of innovation.

The Food Group of the Industrial Union of the Province of Varese (UNIVA) belongs to a territory that has written a piece of history of the Italian food industry with its “niches”: from Lazzaroni to ILLVA of the famous Amaretto, from Lindt & Sprungli – ex Bulgheroni, to the Poretti Brewery, now acquired by Carlsberg. And then mills, salami factories, distilleries, historic companies in the milk and cheese sector (such as Prealpi), and many other brands, companies of different sizes, but all united by the search for quality and a passion for work. Remo Giai will now be the ambassador in a crucial phase like the one the Italian economy is going through, following the suspension of activities caused by covid 19. The objective will be to help the recovery, to create a system and not to disperse this entrepreneurial heritage, which has enormous potential for growth. Congratulations President and …good work!
